Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I have tried, but the issue is a) getting material that has good grip to go around the wheel and b) getting a snug fit.Macgyver wrote:Anyone else 3D print their wheels?

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I've had success with this in the past (but not with the event in general smh). I had some wheels that came with grips, but the the wheels were rather heavy, so I went and printed 4 in diameter ring, with spokes going inti the axle hub, and it really was strong enough.antoine_ego wrote:I have tried, but the issue is a) getting material that has good grip to go around the wheel and b) getting a snug fit.Macgyver wrote:Anyone else 3D print their wheels?
Another thing I did with those same wheels was putting balloons on them, but I never tested that (the other West High team will be testing those wheels for our first competition in about a week's time.)

Where should I go to purchase Carbon Fiber/Aluminum? What are the advantages and disadvantages to using CF?PM2017 wrote:I would be wary of balsa, simply because steering has to be adjustable, and I would want to minimise weird torsion on my car. I would assume balsa wood or carbon fiber, but with the weird rules this year, I wanted to make sure those were still viable.
I would say no (they are not allowed), since the rules are very specific as to what electronic devices may be used for. Someone should probably submit an FAQ regardless.thewaffleguy wrote:(In your own opinion) Is it against this years rules to use electric measurement tools to align your vehicle before a run?

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I 3D printed my wheels this year, 8-inch diameter wheels with rubber bands on top of balloons for the treads.

Carbon fiber has great rigidity for its weight. You'll want to handle it carefully because the fibers may irritate the respiratory tract and can damage electronics. I've used cstsales.com, you can see if they have what you need.pigeon wrote:Where should I go to purchase Carbon Fiber/Aluminum?
