I don't know what open vs. closed means, but, as far as I can tell: the state is divided into 11 geographical regions, each consisting of one or more counties. When a school registers with the State organization, they are assigned to a region based on the school's address. Each region sends a certain number of schools to the state competition, which is a proportion of the total number of schools registered. Pretty sure that's accurate info but I'm not certain.
Ok, so closed then. How would I, being from outside the state, find the region boundaries? (<-- that's really what I'm interested in, since it's hard to understand where all these regions are for me)
I believe that they follow county lines, for the most part. Eastern Long Island is Suffolk County, Western Long Island used to be Nassau before they got too big and were split, Metro is NYC etc. I think Lower Hudson is Westchester and Rockland, but it might include Orange and Putnam, too.

Islip results? (also, wow, Islip has been growing. I remember when there were like 20 teams, now they're at 60?!)

Interesting results (posted below since Avogadro will probably take down the results eventually).

1. WW-P North B (107)
2. Ward Melville A (121)
3. WW-P North A (146)
4. Princeton A (151)
5. Great Neck South A (154)
6. South Brunswick A (183)
7. Lower Merion (238)
8. Bayard Rustin B (242)
9. Chaminade (261)
10. Kellenberg (279)

WW-P North is looking very strong right now; their composite score would have dominated the rest of the teams (unfortunately WW-P South didn't show; would have been nice to be able to compare them). Ward seems to have basically finished their recovery from 2014, and looks about as good as they were from 2009-2012. I don't know too much about NJ, but Princeton and South Brunswick seemed stronger than I would have expected. GNS still seems to be pretty good (as expected; the peak middle school team is their senior class right now), and it'll certainly be interesting to see if they can make it to nationals this year. Rustin isn't performing as well as they have been over the last two years; they also aren't going to MIT this year, so it looks to me that Conestoga or Penncrest is more likely to make nationals (assuming Strath Haven's trend continues to follow that of the middle school).

Another thing I noticed was that in the past few years, Princeton has beaten WWP North and South at most invites but has always fallen below at states. Along with this and the Cornell rankings, I'd expect to see more competition from WWP North at Nationals this year.

Did Islip void the lowest 5 placings for each team? It looks like WW-P North's building events (EV, robot) might drag them down a bit judging by those results.

Same thing for our school though lol.

I'm not sure if anyone has talked about this, but my regionals cancelled Mystery Design. I heard that that rules were very vague, so they are going to replace them. Im not sure who goes to my regionals or knows about this, but if anyone knows more about this, I would like to know. Thanks!

Hey quick question for anyone who happens to know this: does anyone know the website or contact info for the Hunter College High School Science Olympiad Team in NYC? Thanks for everything!

Can anyone confirm/know anything else about that possibility one of the NYC Metro Division C schools will be competing in the Nassau West regionals instead of in their usual assigned regional competition?
