Well, here's how I would do it..
Split the list rightt? So there are...3 "big" orders, or "harder ones to study" orders, Coleoptera, Diptera, and Lepidoptera. Then there are the rather smaller ones, Hemiptera, Homoptera, and Hymenoptera, the others, we worry about later. And then you spli the orders form there...I guess? Well, usually, we split Coleoptera and Diptera first, and then the other ones, we try to split evenly with one another. Usually, we focus on the bigger and harder to study families first, and then we tackle the smaller ones, so we know a whole lot about the orders or families...

I would say to split it so each of you have some orders that have lots of families and some with few families. Like, for example:
A: Protura, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera
B: Collembola, Homoptera, Coleoptera
etc.
Some people do it by the order in the list (which also has metamorphoses in order) but that would mean who person gets all the orders with many families, which are a lot harder to identify than between one-family orders.

My partner and I split it up so that we each had an equal amount of orders with a lot of families to identify and also an equal number of orders without families/orders with not many families that are easier to ID. We tried not to have too much overlap in what we knew.

Both my partner and I memorized the whole list and pretty much whoever comes up with the answer the fastest has the other one flip pages.

Flipping pages...a very fun job these days...XD It's alright, but sometimes, the pressure gets onto you cause both you and your partner don't know the answer...

From what I hear, the list is the exact same as last year, with the exception of a few things being spelled differently.

As far as field guides go, I assume a lot of us have the books we used all of last year. Has anyone found a book other than the Audubon or NWF that they prefer? I'd be interested in looking into a new field guide. I do wish there was a Sibley guide to insects...
