Re: Disease Detectives B/C
Normally, at least in New York, the test doesn't particularly focus on one specific disease. So you can't just study ebola and be fine on the test this year. The rules (in the rule manual) say that the test will favor knowledge that is broad and vague over detailed and specific, so just know some stuff about the different types of diseases (bacteria, viruses, etc.). There is absolutely no way you will be able to memorize anything useful about the diseases they use, and anyway, they should provide any specific information about the diseases they're testing. What remains is how you use the information they give you.

There's no binder, just a single sheet.SOnerd wrote:Sup everyone
So I just got put on this event, and I have a competition in 6 days. I've started studying by making a glossary and looking over the training PPT.
I don't currently have the rules, though. Are we allowed an entire binder?

Make sure you understand exactly the entire scope of epidemiology to start. This online textbook is a great place to start: http://www.cdc.gov/ophss/csels/dsepd/SS1978/SS1978.pdfSOnerd wrote:Shoot.... At the end of it is a glossary. I would suggest copying it into word and formatting it into a block of (small font) text.
The 10 steps to an investigation are something you should definitely know for any Division B DD test. Also practice calculations of rates, odds ratios, and risk factors.

Back in my Division B days, we didn't even get a sheet of paper. You kids don't know how good you have it.Unome wrote:There's no binder, just a single sheet.SOnerd wrote:Sup everyone
