what kind of skills do you need to be good at this event? and what are the allowed resources this year?

You need to do a heck of a lot of research, and you can bring a binder and a calculator.
Achievements:

First, read the rules and the wiki. That should give you a basic understanding of the event. Basically you have to know about all types of waves such as sound waves, types of waves, tsunami waves, Electromagnetic spectrum, and you will also need to know how to do some calculations on speed and frequency. After you read the rules and wiki we can answer more specific questions.

I'm sad... I can't do this again this year...
Last year I (think I) owned the test and got 1st at PA states. The way they did it last year, it was mostly theory. As long as you know the basic concepts (and then some), you'll be fine. Plus, it probably is a good prep for AP Physics.
