We're a homeschool team and we're sort of small. I wish we could pick our team from a school of a couple hundred but basically we take kids with a pulse. That's the main requirement. A mom calls and says, "Oh I heard about your team from a friend and my precious son Poindexter enjoys science... blah blah blah" and the kid is now on the team.

Last year (our first year) we had a B team of 13 kids, ranging in age from 10 to 14. We got third overall in our region and third in state. Not bad for a first year team of young-ish kids.

One boy left our team to go to public school but everyone else is here for a second year plus we gained a few more kids. This year, we've got a young C team (12 kids, ages 13 to 15) and a young B team (12 kids, 11-12 year olds). We just had regionals two days ago and both teams came in fourth (out of about 3 dozen teams in each division) so we're headed to state again. In a few years, when our teams are a bit older, we'll be a little stronger, I hope. By then the kids will have a few years under their belts and the coaches (that is, the moms) will know a little about volcanoes, crime scenes, diseases, etc. We're learning right alongside them. It would be fun to go to Nationals just once...

We've not been to an invitational. We nearly went last year to one and probably should've but it was on a bad day for about half our families and honestly, we didn't want to show off our robot or scrambler yet...

the excel homeschool league has two teams, alpha and beta.
however, i glanced at their compute this test (at our invitationals, afterward, not during the test ), and they spelled alpha wrong. i forget how...it was hilarious, though

LASA's got about 900 people over all, with about 40 on the team. Chopping that down to 15 is my least favorite part of the season. We have gone to two invitationals in the past, but went to three this year, and hope to keep doing so.

Swimmmm, isn't your school more like 1200 with about 300 seniors? That's what I thought.

We're a new team this year and we were able to have a full team, alternates, and a few extra people. Around 23 people. We're a medium school with 1500 people, 350ish per grade. We have about 16 seniors for next year, so we have to do a lot of recruiting.

My school used to have close to 25, if not 30ish kids on the team; this year it was so bad though, that I don't think we even managed to get 15... All our kids left with the 2009 graduating class...
