1. What does the THC stand for?
2. What is its movement driven by?Thermohaline circulation. It's driven by the variations in density caused by temperature and salinity of seawater. Denser water (colder, more saline) will sink, while less dense (warmer, less saline) water will rise. In general, most of the water sinks near the poles and rises near the equator and mid-latitudes.

1. Compare the ratios of O16 to O18 in Oceans versus Glaciers. Why is this the case?
2. What general area of a body of water does the term "littoral" describe?
3. What is the relationship between Atolls and Lagoons?

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
1. The ratio of o18 to o16 in the ocean is higher than glaciers bc of more energy needed to evaporate o18 then o16, idk if this was right 2.Shore 3.An atoll surrounds a body of water called a lagoon
2.What is the relationship between ENSO and PDO?
3.Which ocean is shrinking? Why?

Time for a revive:
1) 106:16:1 C:N:P. Ratio of nutrients in Phytoplankton. 2) Both affect climate in the Pacific, but at different latitudes? I'm confused as to exactly what you're looking for. 3) The Pacific because it is subducting.

Ok, I really need to work on sediments. I don't expect to get any of these right, so don't get your hopes up!BennyTheJett wrote: ↑Tue Mar 23, 2021 5:20 pm Screenshot_2021-03-23 Untitled presentation.png
For the above Venn Diagram, respond to the followin fill in the blanks with the integer that corresponds to the correct place in the Venn Diagram (numbered 1-8).
Example:

4) Chemical composition of SiO2. _____
5) Tektites _______
6) Turbidites _____
7) Composed of Frustules and Corticals. _____
1. 5
2. Diatomaceous -> Diatoms -> Can survive in many environments with high nutrients -> 2
3. 4
4. 1
5. Tektites -> Meteors? -> 8
6. 7
7. 6
Sorry if I got all of them wrong!
Here are some more questions to keep this marathon running.
1. Although he provided a lot of evidence, why was Alfred Wegener's theory of Continental Drift rejected at the time?
2. Describe the importance of the Gulf Stream to the climate of Europe, and explain how global warming can affect the Gulf Stream.
3. This type of breaking wave typically occurs on a very steep floor bottom.
4. Describe how increased CO2 production ultimately leads to increased coral bleaching.

1. It was rejected because he suggested no mechanism for moving the continent.
2. brings humid, mild air to the British Isles and Northwest Europe, causing significantly milder winters than at the same latitudes in the West. Fresh water from melting glaciers can disrupt thermohaline circulation
Plunging Wave
CO2 dissolves in the ocean, it raises the water's acidity level. This prevents a build up of calcium carbonate, which corals draw from seawater to build their skeleton

1. Correct!. 2. Correct! 3. I was looking for a surging breaker since I asked for a very steep bottom. A plunging breaker does happen on a steep bottom though. 4. Correct! I don't have time right now, do you want to start with a new set of questions?

Here are some new questions to keep this marathon going!
California is recording its tides. The link to their tide chart is here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... /tides.jpg
1. What kind of tide is California experiencing?
2. How does this type of tide form?
3. What is/are the other type(s) of tide(s)?
4. Is the water from hour 12 to hour 18 flooding or ebbing? How do you know?
5. When you mix water samples that have different temperatures and salinities, but the same density, will the overall density increase, decrease, or stay the same?
6. Describe eutrophication and its effect on marine ecosystems.
