2020 LISO Invitational (Long Island, NY) Div B & C
Re: 2020 LISO Invitational (Long Island, NY) Div B & C
Why are local schools not prioritized, but instead out of state schools are allowed to compete at this invitational. Seems a bit unfair to me.

Most invitationals, with the exceptions of popular university ones (notably MIT) operate on a strict first-come-first-serve basis.donnymcgoven wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 5:30 pm Why are local schools not prioritized, but instead out of state schools are allowed to compete at this invitational. Princeton also uses first-come-first-serve...sciolyperson1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 5:38 pmMost invitationals, with the exceptions of popular university ones (notably MIT and Princeton) operate on a strict first-come-first-serve basis.donnymcgoven wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2019 5:30 pm Why are local schools not prioritized, but instead out of state schools are allowed to compete at this invitational. Re: 2020 LISO Invitational (Long Island, NY) Div B & C
I'm going to split this up by state and then follow with overall predictions, which will certainly be laughably wrong.
Pennsylvania:
After Cornell, both Rustin and Lower Merion are looking strong. Rustin appeared to be pretty stacked, though their team score was kind of high. Lower Merion seemed to unstack perfectly, with their superscore not far from Rustin's first team. However, I'd still put Rustin ahead. It'll certainly be interesting to see where Cumberland Valley fits in, especially this early in the season. We saw last year that Cumberland Valley's invite season was their strongest point, so I wonder if that'll be true again. Lower Merion was ahead of Rustin until States last year, so depending on how these three teams decide to stack, I could honestly see any one of them coming out on top of the other three. It'll be a close race for Pennsylvania, but certainly an informative one
New Jersey:
I predict both WWP-N and WWP-S will do very well. Both teams looked very strong last year, but with North gaining members from a 3rd-place-in-the-nation Community MS, I'd put them slightly ahead. I think that these New Jersey teams are going to look very strong at LISO in 2 weeks.
New York:
To be honest, I know very little about the strength of these teams relative to each other, or other states. However, Kellenberg and Syosset both looked good at Cornell on Saturday. However, I'd still put Ward above both of them. I wish I could say about New York, but I don't know enough about these teams.
Overall: (these are my superscored predictions, because I'm not going to attempt to guess how each of these teams are going to stack their first/second (or third if you're Rustin) invitational.)
1. WWPN
2. WWPS
3. Rustin
4. Cumberland Valley
5. Lower Merion
6. Ward
7. Kellenberg
8. Syosset
1-2: I really think that WWP N and S are going to win out. Again, I'd definitely put North above South, but I'd put both New Jersey teams ahead of Rustin, CV, and LM, though I feel like South is going to be closer to the PA block in 3rd-5th place than North.
3-5: I picked an order, but I'm not at all confident. This could literally happen in any order and I wouldn't be surprised. It just depends on how good of a day each of these teams has, and how Cumberland Valley is actually doing, since we haven't seen them yet. These 3 teams are going to be incredibly close and one bomb could easily put a team behind.
6-8: I have no idea. Kellenberg and Syosset looked pretty close at Cornell, but I still want to put Ward above both of them. I don't know if any of these NY teams will be able to overtake any of the PA teams, but 5th place and 6th place have the potential of being quite close.
What are your thoughts? I've been dying to see more predictions.
This is just what I think. Good luck to everyone competing in 13 very short days!

Re: 2020 LISO Invitational (Long Island, NY) Div B & C
Superscored predictions:
1. WWPN
2. WWPS
3. Bayard
4. Ward Melville
5. Lower Merion
6. CV
7/8/9 in no particular order Kellenberg/Stuyvesant/Syosset
10. Another NY team (like GNS or Townsend Harris or Mount Academy)
I don't think WWPN/S will win because i'm pretty sure they're unstacking, but their superscores should be first and second (wouldn't be surprised if S beats N). Bayard/Ward/LM are in the second tier of teams here where I think they're clearly better then the lower teams but unlikely to beat WWPN/S's superscores. I think CV will beat the other NY teams but probably won't beat LM. Syo and Stuy were pretty similar last year so I wouldn't be surprised if it went either way. Prior to Cornell, I would've put Kellenberg one tier lower in the group that could be tenth, but they did really well at Cornell. Can they do similarly at LISO?
Good Luck to everyone!
