For all of the questions about proteins, I think studying biochemistry would help. Of course, basic orgo knowledge may be useful too.AlfWeg wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 6:31 pmThe papers that MSOE puts on its website are a great read(last year’s papers are good for understanding CRISPR), and ig scioly wiki is a decent starting point(I think it’s all factually correct to ). Naw, def not orgochem, that just doesn’t really help imoeagerlearner102 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 4:48 pm What textbooks should I read for Protein Modeling? Would an organic chemistry textbook chapter be a good idea?

Re: Protein Modeling C
This sounds kind of extra but would any of you recommend Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry? I went on a Scioly wiki link about protein modeling that referenced to chapters in Lehninger.

Re: Protein Modeling C
Is it just me or did this confusion come up last year as well? One paper per team or person??
and in the next line it specifiesEach participant may bring one 8.5'' x 11'' sheet of paper
This year it seems like one paper per person? Each team will impound...

Re: Protein Modeling C
This year they make it clear that each participant may bring a paper, so up to 3 papers per full team. Last year the rules were unclear and at least for me most supervisors only allowed 1 paper per team.

This year: " Each participant may bring one 8.5” x 11” sheet of paper, which may be in a sheet protector sealed by tape or laminated, that may contain information on both sides in any form and from any source without any annotations or labels affixed along with writing utensils for each participant."
Both years seem to indicate we can take 3 pages, but it wasn't allowed last year anywhere I went. With the same wording imo, I would say 1 page.

Re: Protein Modeling C
If I recall, there was a rule clarification last year for another event with similar wording (Forensics, perhaps?) that stated the language "each participant" indicates that the number of sheets allowed is that number given * team members participating in the event. I'd have to dig through soinc though, but I seem to remember a ruling on this.AlfWeg wrote:Last year: . Re: Protein Modeling C
It's interesting that Soinc bolded the word participant in this year's rules, I feel like that means they want to emphasize to people that it is 1 page for each person --> 3 pages per full team. It's definitely safer to bring just 1 piece of paper though...Both years seem to indicate we can take 3 pages, but it wasn't allowed last year anywhere I went. Re: Protein Modeling C
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't bold in the rules indicate a change, rather than an emphasis?MacintoshJosh wrote:It's interesting that Soinc bolded the word participant in this year's rules, I feel like that means they want to emphasize to people that it is 1 page for each person --> 3 pages per full team.
