Have you guys been doing tests yet for division C? I've hit 800mv on high. Things to note there: The device was about as close as I could possibly put it to the electric fan and the electric fan was only about 12 inches...

Looking back on conversations from Division B last year, it's going to be a lot of fun interpreting everyone's personal results

Yeah dude trial and error! I'm glad someone else has started. You'll be at the Boyceville tournament right? I think I convinced my coach to go this year.

Yeah, I'll be there. My school's the one putting it on, so I hope I'll be there. And I was rereading the rules, turns out that my windmill was about two, maybe three, times larger that it can be. So I made new blades after school today. And I hope to see you there. We're including Div. B as well this year, so our little school is going to be packed. We might end up having busses shuttling people over to the elementary school just because there'll be so many people there. Also, we have the number ten team in the nation coming because of how well our invite is ranked in the Mid-West. I was shocked when I heard that.

Yeah, it's going to be one hot party, I've never been to your school but I'm definitely looking forward to it!

No, not Mira Loma. It was actually the team from Illinois that got ninth at nats last year. There was a team from Ohio, I believe it was, that didn't go to nats, but was still ranked higher than them.
And our school's tiny. It's big enough to hold the... :counts on fingers for a sec: maybe 500-600 students that go to the middle/high school. It was a little crowded last year, but not bad. But we'll have more teams this year, so we'll see what happens.
And it wasn't hard to get the windmill that big. I read the rules wrong so my blades were 27.5 cm long. Woops...

Hey guys, I'm actually really excited for this event. Materials-wise what is the general consensus? We haven't actually started building our designs yet but we're thinking balsa wood would work the best.

Also my only other concern is the actual Physics aspect of the exam. As far as I can see the exam portion of the rules is basically copied out of the Solar Power rules which was the NYS trial event last year. I don't really see what thermodynamics has to do with wind power. I was thinking more towards fluid dynamics, Bernoulli's equation and that sorta thing. Any insight into that?

Are we allowed to have the wires connected to somewhere else? I'm thinking of using the blades to spin an electromagnet to induce electricity, but i need the wires to the voltmeter to connect to my setup, not to the cd player motor.

The judge will have all of that. You just need your CD/blade assembly.

Hmmm I'm a little confused-- could someone help? Is the CD provided at the competition and we have to attach our blades to it, or do we bring the blades already attached to a CD? o_o
