That sounds like a test that was too easy.fanjiatian wrote:Road Scholar is annoyingly competitive.
I only got two questions wrong (a little off with my latitude and longitude) and placed 4th.

No, just a too competitive group. I was there too, I placed 2nd...I don't know why. I could've sworn we got everything right.

Re: Road Scholar B
Road Scholar was amazingly simple. However, it was also amazing how many people couldn't read a map.
For example, my team placed 2nd in Road Scholar. While doing so, we lost our reference materials, our protractor, ruler, USGS map symbol sheet, started late, and skipped half of the test because my partner arrived fifteen minutes into the competition. Isn't that ridiculous? I mean, it was reading a Colorado/Wyoming AAA map. How hard was it? You had the map with you before you took the test.
It's an amazingly easy subject, yet many people take maps too easily and underestimate. I know there definitely will be much more of a challenge at States.

Re: Road Scholar B
Did the judge tell you the map beforehand? Because you shouldn't have it beforehand unless it's just your own state map. And don't count on it being so easy all the time. I medaled many times simply because we were less wrong than the other teams. We've gotten first on a score of less than 33%.

It says on therules shhetwe can bring in notes. By notes, is there a limit on how many we can bring, do they have to be handwritten, etc?

Re: Road Scholar B
You may bring whatever notes you wish so long as they are in the three-ring binder. (And I think they have to be three hole punched too, but you'll have to check that)

Sometimes, the tests can actually get pretty complicated. And I look forward to seeing you at states, tomorrow!arugi wrote:Road Scholar was amazingly simple. However, it was also amazing how many people couldn't read a map.

Re: Road Scholar B
I always bring mechanical pencils, a ruler, and a protractor. I bring a topographic symbol sheet and I bring an example of how to draw a map. I put it all in a bag to keep it all together.

Re: Road Scholar B
Since you can bring a binder (unless I was unaware of a rule change), there's no reason not to bring one. We loaded ours last year and didn't finish below first for the last three tournaments.
