what's wrong with Prentice Hall?

There's Earth Science and the Environment by thomson and Turk, it should work, and its not prentice hall, but going to a college bookstore is a good idea, but i would suggest finding a book and then looking for it online at a cheaper price

I'm not sure what's wrong with Prentice Hall textbooks. I like them the most out of any materials I've ever used. But sachria asked for books that weren't prentice hall.

I guess they can be expensive sometimes...? :?

To smartkid22,

Pretty much all of the table you posted was correct. I only found a few errors and most were things you said you weren't sure of.

1) for volcano type, stratovolcanoes are typically andesitic and found at subduction zones so they should be in the middle column
2) In the third column for volcano type it should be caldera and lava dome
3) Cinder cones cannot be put into any of these columns because they have a low silica content, which would put them into the first column, and they have a high gas content, which would put them in the third column.
4) for plate boundaries you are correct that the middle column should be convergent, and there is no answer for the third column because they are typically intraplate volcanoes so they do not occur on plate boundaries.
5) transform faults do not typically produce volcanoes (i can explain, if you need me to just write back)

To all,

I am sure of this information because I work at Indiana University in the Geology Dept. and specifically the Geophysics section. My boss is a professor who teaches a class called Earthquakes & Volcanoes and I have been doing research pertaining to the topic. If there are any questions you guys have just let me know and I can ask my boss about them and get back to you.
