Anyone have any idea what mathematical formulas we should know for the States/Nationals level?

I have: 1) Wave Speed = sqrt(g*d)
2) S=1.80655Cl (chlorinity to salinity formula)

These are the only two I have seen on practice tests.

Wave speed is actually S=L(wavelength)/T(time)
The formula for wave speed there is only used for tsunamis as other waves are not caused by a disruption. You may have know this already, but I just wanted to clarify since you did not specify. Last year's test had many more mathematical elements than any of my other tests as well as more about oceanographic tools. I'm sure there was more to it than that, but I can't really remember at this moment. (also there were actual stations)

Thanks for clarifying that - I didn't realize that relationship! What specific mathematical calculations did you have to do? Specific formulas I can add on my cheat sheet would help. Thanks!

sorry for not replying sooner! I can't really remember the exact questions, but I'm certain you should at least have the buoyancy formula on your cheat sheet as well as the wave formulas.
EDIT: also people have previously mentioned some other formulas which are really helpful.

If they ask us what this is a picture of, do we put Hawaiian-Emperor seamount chain or just Emperor seamount chain?

Ideally, you should raise your hand and ask the event supervisor whether the question is referring to the northwestern part or the entire chain. However, it's likely that this won't work, (e.g. the test is in stations and going very fast, the proctor knows nothing about the test, etc.) in which case you should take your best guess based on the commonality of the two names and your judgement of the event supervisor (for example, if one name is much more recent and your ES has been studying oceanography for many decades, I would put the older name).
