HAWTS are usually less reliable than VAWTS. :P
"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another which states that this has already happened."

There will be one posted on the SO National site within the next month. I would post one, but the one posted on the National site will be built better than the one I have.

Should be what they're using.

I know we can place our fan in any place in front of the powered fan, but will we have to place it a certain distance away from the fan? It seems like something like this should be a little more clear so teams don't get an advantage by putting their fans closer.

I know last year they had a set distance for Wind Power. I remember testing distances with one of our Div. B teams. You don't want it too close or too far away from the fan. I believe that the distance away was specified in the rules, but I'd have to do a better job of reading them than I did today.

Also, I hope the set up is a little better than the one in the diagram you posted, jazzy009. It's a good picture, but the bolt sticking out of the center has me a little worried about it interfering with the blades of the fan. I don't know how far it sticks out though, so it might not be a problem.

On NY's state test last year for B I can tell you there were a TON of numbers and statistics that had exactl answers. Of course my team had none of that so we got 15th. So your binder assuming you get one again this year should have general info as well as specifics in numbers.

What do you mean, numbers as in math equations or numbers as in...I don't even know...

Vbass- Yeah, I'm not a fan of that setup, the bolt gets in the way of certain designs. But that's the only one I could fins so far, it's last year's Div B setup for practice.

It's okay. My coach said that they'd be posting a better one soon when I had asked him if I could post one of ours. If they don't, I'll deffinently try to get ours up. But ours essentially looked like one of our old boomilevers, except taller, with that part from a CD player mounted at the top and hooked up to a multitester. If that helps anyone in building theirs in anyway.

Have you guys been doing tests yet for division C? I've hit 800mv on high. Things to note there: The device was about as close as I could possibly put it to the electric fan and the electric fan was only about 12 inches...

Looking back on conversations from Division B last year, it's going to be a lot of fun interpreting everyone's personal results :)

You really can only compare results using the same fan and cd motor. Last year in B, I could get 1500 + with one fan and motor and half that with another.
