Re: Egg-O-Naut C
Not to mention that there are going to be some HUGE parachutes this year. And 75 psi...this will be a fun year.
Anyone have some advice for making an egg enclosure smaller than a soda can? I need a better base.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
Do the rules call for separation? Or does the rocket/egg have to come down as one unit? Last year the "egg capsule" could be deployed as a unit separate from the rocket.

It is the same as last year. 3 second bonus for seperation.baker wrote:Do the rules call for separation? Or does the rocket/egg have to come down as one unit? Last year the "egg capsule" could be deployed as a unit separate from the rocket.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
1. This question left intentionally blank.
2. Assuming no vertical wind movement, how long would a competitive 2L egg-o-naut stay in the air?
According to YouTube, over 1:16. I wouldn't be surprised if truly competitive ones are a lot more.
3. Assuming steady horizontal wind of 10-15 miles per hour, northeast, how far would a competitive egg-o-naut travel downrange?
1:16min --> 76s
76s / 3600s per hr = 0.021 hr
0.021 hr * 10 mph = ~0.21 mi
0.021 hr * 15 mph = ~0.32 mi
0.32 mi * 5280 ft per mi = ~1700 ft
0.21 mi * 5280 ft per mi = ~1100 ft
~1100-1700 ft southwest ?!?
4. So how is this going to work if the local SO competition holds this event in the same ~300 ft wide courtyard, surrounded by buildings and trees, where egg-o-naut was held at in 2009, and the usual prevailing wind is 10-15 miles per hour, northeast?
Feel free to correct me on any errors or omissions.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
It might be awhile, I'm sure. I chased countless ones last year.
There may have been some updrafts in that situation - it's not easy to tell in the video. And it may have been pressurized to more than 75 psi, which would make it go higher.
I'm not sure if there will be consistent minute-plus times in regional and state competitions, but it certainly is possible and probably attainable by many teams. I could definitely see it being an issue - especially at competitions like my regional one where it was held in a parking lot between a four lane road and the building.

My team has! We're going to have our first test launch tomorrow. My rocket will likely fail epically, but that's the fun part!ktrujillo52 wrote:So has anyone started building?
