Really? That's kind of sad. I think at nationals at least one of the participants would know exponents. And nats usually is supposed to be harder than the other levels, but sometimes they make it easier. Now that I realize it, that was my 6th grade science textbook! Not making it to nats, I felt like I HADN'T devoted enough time, as I was really unprepared at states. My medal was a true phenomenon.
