Minimum distance between target and device

Are there rules/guidelines around a minimum distance between the target and the device. As I understand, supervisors provide a projectile and a counter weight. Based on which, the teams have to let the supervisors know how far they need the target to be placed. If that is correct, then would there be a minimum distance to keep between the target and the device. What if the teams place the target at 1 feet from the device, if that's how far theirs can throw?

You're asking about Storm, for which the answer is in rule 5e: 0.5m increments allowed. So yes, a team can ask for their target to be 50cm away.
