Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
Let's start this since I don't wanna have all the geology events be dead.
What is this specimen? (This is specimen A by the way)
What is this specimen? (We'll call this specimen B)
What's the crystal system of specimen A?
Describe the characteristics of specimen B if is receives too much ultraviolet radiation.
What is this phenomena?

Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
Thanks for posting, I was trying to find this question marathon for a while now because the 2022 link leads to Solar Systems
Specimen A is Sodalite Specimen B is Quartz var. Amethyst Sodalite has an isometric crystal system Amethyst will lose its color when exposed to high levels of UV radiation Fluorescence

All are good but the last I was looking for dichroism Your turn to write some questions!acornsquash24 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:11 pm Thanks for posting, I was trying to find this question marathon for a while now because the 2022 link leads to Solar Systems

Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
Oops I knew it couldn't be that easy...
I don't know how to attach images so I'll do some non-ID questions this time (you can probably tell I'm quite new at this). If you could teach me how to do so that would be great.
(I figured out how and I feel like an idiot)
1. Define piezoelectricity and name a mineral that is piezoelectric.
2. Dichroic minerals are always one of which 3 crystal systems?
3. What is the hardness of scoria?
4. Explain what causes color alteration in the following Quartz varieties: a. Milky, b. Smoky, c. Rose, d. Amethyst, and e. Rose quartz.
5. List the following in order of most to least common: Native copper, Hematite, Malachite, Stibnite

Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
1. Piezoelectricity is the phenomenon where a material will generate a current when mechanically stressed. Quartz is piezoelectric. 2. hexagonal, trigonal, tetragonal 3. 5 to 6 4a. Fluid inclusions during crystal formation 4b. Impurities of aluminum 4c. Titanium, Iron, or manganese impurities 4d. Iron impurities 4e. Duplicate of 4c. 5. Stibnite, Hematite, Malachite? not sure

Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
1, 2, 4a, 4c, 4d, 4e are correct.
3, 4b, 5:
Your turn! Or someone's turn I don't know. I'll try to make better questions next time.
3, 4b, 5:
3. I forgot to specify for the hardness according to the Moh's hardness scale, in which Scoria doesn't have a hardness because it's a rock. So your answer is fine. 4b. Smoky quartz gets its color from natural radiation 5. Hematite, Malachite, Stibnite, Native copper -- I would probably have to use my field guide to answer a question like this

Re: Rocks and Minerals B/C
Your questions were great! It is now my turn.
Mineral A:
Mineral B:
1. Identify Minerals A and B.
2. Exceptional quantities of crystalline specimens of Mineral A have been found in what location?
3. Describe the process of creating synthetic crystals of Mineral A.
4. Mineral B is the primary ore for what metal?
5. Describe the luster of Mineral B.
6. Minerals A and B were used in what component of early radios?

1. A- Zincite, B - Galena 2. New Jersey - Franklin and Sterling Hill Mines 3. Different ways, but one is the CZ method where a seed crystal of the mineral is dipped in molten feed material and eventually the molten material crystallizes forming a new part of the crystal. 4. Lead 5. Metallic/Dull 6. Crystal Detector
