Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
There are a lot of resources out there, but does anyone have any suggestions for learning about this year's DP topic? Does anyone know of any smaller articles/videos, or would it be better to read/skim a textbook first?

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Apologies for the late reply, but reading rules it appears that skimming Tim Davie's Fundamentals of Hydrology may be helpful for the hydrology aspect. Reading through USGS pages and googling the information mentioned in rules is probably the best course of action, though, and of course reading the wiki for freshwaters is a start. Hope this helps!

Has Hydrology ever been a topic
In DP before? If so is there a place we can find sample old
Test questions?

Sample tests can be found in the test exchange archive here: https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Test_ ... FreshwaterTroyscience wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 6:36 pm Has Hydrology ever been a topic

and more will be added here: https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/2022_Test_Exchange
as the season progresses.
There is also a test in the scioly.org test exchange here: https://scioly.org/tests which can be found by searching "Thenerdicat".

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Hi guys! I found some really in-depth lessons by Tulane University that really closely align with this year's DP topic!
Here are the links!
Streams and Drainage:https://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/eens1110/streams.htm -> Streams, drainage systems, stream channels (discharge, velocity, etc), stream erosion, transport, and deposition, channel patterns, floodplains, drainage evolution, floods
Groundwater:https://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/eens11 ... dwater.htm -> Porosity, permeability, aquifers and groundwater movement, wells, groundwater contamination, karst features
Weathering and Soils: https://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/eens11 ... hering.htm -> weathering
You can find all of the lessons here: https://www.tulane.edu/~sanelson/eens1110/index.html

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Hello,
I am looking at one of the questions in the Troy High Invitational [QUestion 10], where they have asked what is NOT a defining characteristic of a Rejuvenated Stream.
Rapids and Waterfalls, as I know, are characteristics of a Rejuvenated Stream. But in the Answer sheet, they have marked it is not.
Wanted to check with the team to see what your thoughts are.

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Hi,
I have a question about Dynamic Planet. In the Science Olympiad Rule Book it says that one of the categories is "Interpretation of fresh water features shown on USGS topographic maps" so I thought that this was a good resource: https://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/TopographicMa ... ymbols.pdf
But I encountered a questions on a test that I think are related to this topic but I had no idea what the answers were after reviewing the link I found. Does anyone have any resources that can help with this?

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
idk that's the thing I usually use but I also have stuff on watershed delineation(idk if that's supposed to be with this section) USGS typically has some good stuff. This link was helpful at least for me:https://web.uri.edu/nemo/files/ReadingT ... I.2018.pdf

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Do you guys think that soinc is turning this event into a water-only event? Looking at past event rotations, you can see that from 2005 to 2012, the topics glaciers, oceanography, earthquakes & volcanoes, and freshwater have all been used. However, in the past 4 years starting in 2019, it looks like the earthquakes & volcanoes rotation has been skipped. If soinc is planning on turning this event into water-only, might it be because we already have Fossils/Rocks and Minerals for a geology rotation? Or do the past event rotations mean nothing and I'm just trying to look for patterns that aren't there?
