Uh milk tea usually isn't bitter... Boba refers to the tapioca balls, but it's sort of become a synecdoche for the milk tea that the tapioca balls are in. Milk tea is usually sweet and sugary.

hmMmM well I mean where I live I'm pretty sure the boba is absolutely terrible so maybe it was the place i got it from? I'll have to find somewhere that actually sells good boba sometime.
