On the flip side, it's the easiest possible event you could make questions for while walking homePM2017 wrote:Reviving this thread, I'm sorry to say that I had to give up Fermi Questions... I got completely outclassed by a pair of sophomores, who are some of the smartest people I know. I'm sad to say that I've competed in last Fermi Questions for the last time already, and the worst part was that I didn't know it at the time.
Tis bittersweet though, since I voluntarily gave it up for those two, because it was what was best for the team,

This year I was really hoping to get Codebusters. I was expecting to get three events, and my hopes were Disease Detectives, GeoLogic Mapping, and Codebusters (The first two I actually did get, thankfully). Two issues arose: one, our team needed biology help (because of this, I got Designer Genes and Protein Modeling). Second, which was probably more major, there was a National conflict with Disease Detectives, an event I was virtually guaranteed to get. And so, my Codebusters hopes were foiled.
(Disclaimer: I'm only a little salty, as I enjoy all four events I'm doing this year.)

Re: The Event that "Got Away"
On the opposite side of this, I really wanted to do orni. But code-orni conflicted and I ended up with code (which is the event im the most excited for this year!). Now i'm doing fossils because it's still an ID, although not as fun (imo) as birds. Hopefully orni won't conflict with my events next year and I'll get another chance at it.Tailsfan101 wrote: ↑November 17th, 2019, 3:59 pm Revive:

Re: The Event that "Got Away"
relatable with the disease code conflict it made me so sad cause those were the two events i placed in at states last year. but i’m happy with my choiceTailsfan101 wrote: ↑November 17th, 2019, 3:59 pm Revive:

Re: The Event that "Got Away"
I had to step down from my favorite event (Dynamic Planet) because I didn't work well with my partner, and his mom was the coach. It turns out we both were taken out and my brother was put into the event.

Re: The Event that "Got Away"
Ahhhhhhh I took notes for disease for several months, only to have to quit because of our desperate need for someone in WIDI (it conflicts)... of course all conflicts aren't ideal, but I especially dislike the meteo/WIDI/disease one... why must they put three of the best events (in my opinion) in the same time slot :/

Re: The Event that "Got Away"
Thermodynamics ~ I did the event until states, but they decided to make it so both me and my partner had conflicts. We did impound, but we had to get the density lab kids to do it. My partner managed to finish impound for her other event fast enough to take the test, but since I was the one which focused on the binder, we kinda bombed a little bit. Density lab is basically thermo math tho-ish, so I guess that helped?

Codebusters and Sounds of Music: I was hoping to do them next year when they would get cycled into div. B. Oh well... My dreams are gone. I always had an interest in ciphers and I really wanted to build an instrument... I guess thats not happening anymore.
We don't talk about Pentathlon.

Does your (future) high school have a SciOly team?Booknerd wrote: ↑March 20th, 2020, 12:50 pm Codebusters and Sounds of Music: I was hoping to do them next year when they would get cycled into div. I had wanted to try Meteorology in middle school, but never had the chance... it's probably for the best, given how much I dislike competing in earth science now. I jumped around events in middle school, and doing an earth science event and a physics event would have meant I had competed in an event from every subject(from the way I classified them, at least). I have done a Div. B event from each of the five categories listed on soinc, which is a nice, useless little accomplishment I'm a bit proud of nonetheless.
I wanted to do Ecology again, this time in Div. C my senior year... guess I'll be writing Ecology tests as a college freshman? If I can find somewhere that wants a volunteer, that is...
