If it is like the year didn't exist, will they allow the old 8th graders back into the team?

Personally, I would more concerned with the impacts it would have on underclassmen. It would result in difficult situations where you have an experienced college student who hasn't been attending practices, and an underclassman that has been going to all practices, vying for the same spot.theskyisred wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 5:32 amThat would be a bit hard to get them from College. i agree, there’s already been issues of current seniors on my team not showing up vs underclassmen who have been showing up to EVERY practice and admittedly have been catching upEastStroudsburg13 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 6:10 amPersonally, I would more concerned with the impacts it would have on underclassmen. I initially had the same thought (I am an eighth grader) but I realized that although yes, you could go back to Division B, I feel that it is better for your "Science Olympiads career" to move on to Division C, in order to familiarize yourself with some of the events and the level of testing difficulty.CPScienceDude wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 4:15 am5 Freshmen are allowed on any Div B team anyway.theskyisred wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:57 amIf it is like the year didn't exist, will they allow the old 8th graders back into the team?

I agree... I know that it's common practice for many 9th graders to come back to div B, but in my opinion it's better to move on to div C, not only for your "Science Olympiad career" but for your own enjoyment. At this point, doing another year of division B events wouldn't be nearly as fun or challenging for me anymore.snowyowl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:27 pmI initially had the same thought (I am an eighth grader) but I realized that although yes, you could go back to Division B, I feel that it is better for your "Science Olympiads career" to move on to Division C, in order to familiarize yourself with some of the events and the level of testing difficulty.CPScienceDude wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 4:15 am5 Freshmen are allowed on any Div B team anyway.theskyisred wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:57 am

Also, I know it isn't always like this, but it probably sometimes gets to the point where there are 5 9th graders completely carrying the team, which takes some of the fun out of it for the younger team members.

Yes, my school has never accepted ninth graders on a Division B team, for the reasons that you mentioned.EwwPhysics wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:58 pmI agree... Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University
The great debate on my team is if the eighth graders come back. My coach said she feels uncomfortable using the ninth grader rule any other season, but would make and exception for this year. I personally wouldn't want to come back b/c I want to do Scioly at my high school, but I feel like there will be many teams using this rule next year. Also, we put two eight graders on events that weren't coming back so we have a whole new problem there.snowyowl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:23 pmYes, my school has never accepted ninth graders on a Division B team, for the reasons that you mentioned.EwwPhysics wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:58 pmI agree... We just bring in high schoolers from previous years to coach us.Frost0125 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 6:51 pmThe great debate on my team is if the eighth graders come back. Re: 2020 National Tournament: North Carolina State University
I competed in Division B last year as a ninth grader because I joined in January of eighth grade and I didn't feel like I had enough experience to make the Div C team since I go to Troy. At Kraemer, we've never had more than two ninth graders in a year. There are many good reasons to come back to Division B, such as the leadership opportunity and not being ready for Division C.Frost0125 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 7:40 amI think that is wha most of the kids will do on my teamtheskyisred wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 4:42 amWe just bring in high schoolers from previous years to coach us.Frost0125 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 6:51 pm
