Solar Power is a trial event for Division B/C in various states.

That's on purpose. We essentially took the Thermo rules and inverted the process. In stead of keeping heat you need to collect heat.

I like the idea of the event, but with the current rules there are just too many variables and problems with the event.
1) There is only a minimum height to the light source - there is no maximum height.
2) The temperature of the water is also not specified - in my experience, it has always been room temperature, but it should be specified as such in the rules.
3) The light source can be so varied - not all 150 W bulbs are the same. For example, a heat lamp bulb is often used, but according to the rules a 150 W standard bulb is also legal. The quality, or presence, of a brooder lamp and its size are also different.
According to the parameters of this event, you could have 99 C water with a lamp 5 m high with a standard 150 W bulb with no brooder lamp, just as you could have 1 C water 5 cm high with a 150 W heat lamp bulb with a brooder lamp. There's far too much variability. Thermo, the event this is based on, had many less variables. Thermo depended on the temperature of the water, amount of the water, room temperature, and elapsed time, and had clear guidelines for the allowed temperature.
There are also problems with the structure of the event itself.
4) The graphs make no sense - you are to measure temperature across time, although you only measure temperature after 10 minutes. Either the rules should be changed so that you record temperature at different times, or the graphs should be changed. This would be a simple fix - require the height of the lamp to be the independent variable, with the temperature change as the dependent variable, since that is what your prediction is actually based on.
5) The scoring is also broken. There is no way to get a prediction score below 20, within reason. Even if you are off by a massive amount, such as 10 degrees, you will get almost all the points, even compared to a person who was dead on.
