Yeah it seems that either two gaps about 50 cms each will be the winning combo. However, if a five gap coaster that could get 20cm per gap could work, it might be more consistent.Crtomir wrote:It's 5 points per cm of gap, so a score of 500 would mean a grand total of 100 cm of gap, not 100 cm for each of the 5 gaps.
Plus, every time the ball is in contact with the track or anything else, it loses energy, so it's most likely that the best gap scores will come from two jumps. There is no way to fit more than about a 60 cm gap for a single jump even if you go diagonally. So to get more than 300 points for the gap score, you need to do two jumps at least. If you do more than two jumps, you are losing energy. It might be possible, but I'm skeptical.
Like I say, we haven't seen scores above 400 here in Ohio, to my knowledge, and there are some pretty good Ohio teams here. Maybe some teams have improved over the last several weeks, I don't know.

Re: Scores?
There was one 400+ roller coaster at a regional competition in Michigan. That's just what I've seen. There could be more.RyanMist wrote:The only one I have heard that has more than 400 points is IvanGe. Mine gets a little above 300 from gaps. Re: Scores?
I got like around 450 at States this year. my partner and I can probably get it up to like 550 maybe. (the gaps won't go much more but we can work on the time to be more accurate which can get us more points.

Re: Scores?
That's really incredible. Congratulations! You sound like you are well on your way to taking 1st at Nationals. I doubt anyone else has scored higher than that in competition this year.IvanGe wrote:I got like around 450 at States this year. my partner and I can probably get it up to like 550 maybe. Re: Scores?
Yeah what was the time goal at NY states? I doesn't really affect me at this point but I'm still intrigued.

Re: Scores?
Rumor has it that Gelinas hired a professional tech coach just for Rollercoaster.
wink wink( that isn't true but it would be pretty funny).
Also, Ivan got like more than 30 sec off the target time lol.
