There does appear to be a disparity, but with a very small competition like this it could also be mostly random noise. Both of their teams placed well - certainly stronger than they have been earlier this season. Given how well Centerville placed at their home invitational, I was surprised to see Solon win here.Unome wrote:From my cursory analysis, Solon doesn't appear to be as split as usual. If you look at the strength of competition at Centerville's home invite you could say they also had very small competition then as well, meaning their dominance was also random noise. For Centerville I feel like you can't make a definite judgment from just one previous invite and for Solon you can't judge their strength given the only real competition they faced was Centerville.uictoria1 wrote: There does appear to be a disparity, but with a very small competition like this it could also be mostly random noise. Re: Ohio 2018
I don't agree that Centerville's home invitational "had very small competition." The four top teams from Ohio - Centerville, Mason, Mentor , and Solon - were all in attendance (with 9 teams between them alone), along with a large overall field of 60+ teams.rnon wrote:If you look at the strength of competition at Centerville's home invite you could say they also had very small competition then as well, meaning their dominance was also random noise. I agree it's difficult to judge any team's strength from any one invitational. However, I think Solon displayed more strength/consistency this past weekend than they have at earlier invitationals (e.g. Centerville, MIT, Westlake). The West Liberty-Salem Invitational - where Centerville, Mentor, and Solon will face off one last time - will be a chance to confirm (or contradict) this data point. Ultimately, Ohio's State Tournament seems likely to be especially competitive and close this year.

Re: Ohio 2018 Mentor Middle Schools
I heard that Mentor is re-organizing their school system next year. Making one of the middle schools a 7-8th grade only for all of Mentor, other 2 middle schools will be 1-6th. Anyone for Mentor know what the plan is for Scioly teams?

6th grade teams can still do well. There was a 6th grade team in Georgia that was top 5 in the state in 2013 and 2016.4Head wrote:If that’s true, I for one am looking forward to the mechanicals not beingSciolyGuy411 wrote:I heard that Mentor is re-organizing their school system next year. Re: Ohio 2018 Mentor Middle Schools
There have been 6th grade teams that also take 5th graders that have done well. Wicklund Elementary in California comes to mind as an example.ScottMaurer19 wrote:Still requires that they have enough 6th graders to fill a teamUnome wrote:6th grade teams can still do well.
