I'm aiming for almost 3 minutes. I just got placed in this event and I read the rules and some of the basics. Needless to say I'm completely lost and very confused. Where would be a good place to start and are there any recommended articles or whatnot I should read? Thanks. (:

Oof. There's a saying that the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Likewise, instead of focusing on building everything you want right now, build one task after another. I would recommend making all the tasks accept electrical inputs and produce electrical outputs, to allow a degree of modularity. I would start with the start and the end tasks, as they are worth the most, and so that, if the device is incomplete before competition, what you do have can be put together to make a legally complete device. My suggestion would be to build the finishing and starting tasks first (worth the most points) and then simply build one transfer at a time starting with the easiest ones. As Andrew said building with electrical inputs and outputs would theoretically be the easiest and most reliable method. I would most certainly say it is two seperate sources. There are plenty of relatively inexpensive, high power, Nickel metal hydride batteries out there. Do you think 1M HCl would be considered hazardous by event supervisors? A higher concentration is used in many lab events (even in division B).
