That's a nice arm, and I could even tell as soon as I looked at it that it wasn't the master plan you've been hinting at from all your posts this year. I had a question about the carbon fiber you use. I just saw the link your coach posted on the EV forum to buy it, and I was wondering what your experience with it was. What size do you use? How strong is it? How much does it weigh? I'm not looking for exact stats or anything, just what you think about it. We've been using threaded rod that's like $1 per meter, but it's pretty heavy and we get a lot of sag (which I'm sure could be eliminated with better design, but who has time for that). Have you used any kind of rods or building material?

Thanks!
I think the square carbon I use measures 6.2mm on each side. The round carbon I use measure about 8mm I believe. The carbon fiber is incredibly strong and light - it doesn't get better than this. I haven't used threaded rods extensively enough to offer any input.

Does anyone know the scores that placed 1st at MIT or golden gate? (if possible specify the point value system they used)

Thanks!

I can't answer for those invitationals, but the Wright State Invitational a couple weeks back, regional scoring was
1. 395
2. 344
3. 290
4. 290
5. 231.28

Among 60 teams attending, 37 competed for Robot, several top Michigan and Ohio teams represented in that top 5. One of the top teams was largely pre-programmed and automated.

Are you using standard sized servos on the elbow and wrist? What stall torque ratings are the servos on your elbow and shoulder servos if you don't mind me asking as that arm looks quite long.

Scores from a regional tournament in Washington state. Many teams had difficulty confirming that their radio controls were allowed per the Remote Control of Devices document. Some teams could not readily show that their devices were powered by less than 14.4 volts; since this was a regional, I allowed taking apart their device after their run. I was also more lenient with setup; if devices fell out of the Device Square after setup, teams could quickly adjust their device.
