Re: Fossils B/C
^ The same is true for me too, Unome. And, if I don't know something off the top of my head, I almost always know if I have it in my notes or not.
For those of you who have done Fossils (or Rocks and Minerals for that matter...) at Nationals, what are some areas you think they'll specifically go over? I'm going to try to be ready for anything, but it would be nice to know some focal points that might come up on the test.
Thanks!

Re: Fossils B/C
I'm thinking about doing this event next year in Division C. Based on what you've seen in the past, how much is the current fossil list going to change? What details should you include about each genus? Thanks ahead of time to anyone who answers.

Re: Fossils B/C
As far as I know, the Official Fossil List does not change within a 3 year period, but only after alternating with Rocks and Minerals. So, I'm to assume it will be the same next year.Post by daydreamer0023 » Tue May 12, 2015 2:06 am

Where the genus is concerned, I feel like I'm under prepared. Find as much information as you can would be my only suggestion!

Re: Fossils B/C
Does anyone know Gary Vorwald and Alan Noland? They're in charge of the Fossils Nationals test.
I looked up some of Mr. Vorwald's old tests, but the only one I could find was the NY Regionals Division B test. The questions were good, but was way too short to be a Nationals test (like only 3-5 questions per 2-minute station). I was wondering if anyone (NY people?) has taken any of his other tests before, and if they were longer.
I'm also wondering if either of them proctored the Nationals event from the last rotation (2008-2011)? One of the alumni at my school mentioned that particular test being ridiculously long. If that's the same writer, then we can expect the same thing.

Re: Fossils B/C
I'll say this. 2009 was stupidly long and the pictures from the test (what we have) are really bad so it was actually hard. 2010 was stupid easy. 2011 was decently long but for me the tests was dirt easy as well.

Re: Fossils B/C
Props to Mr. Vorwald for running an awesome Fossils event this year! Very good length and reasonably challenging questions. Also, beautiful samples and great organization and timing. He and his team definitely knew what they were doing.
I guess I'm just super happy about this because last year a lot of good teams were screwed over by the extremely short and poorly spaced Rocks and Minerals test.

Re: Fossils B/C
Haha, can't believe I didn't see this. Vorwald is basically one of the best (I would humbly say the best) in the nation at running the rocks/fossils event. But I'm sure you found that out yourself . If he ran rocks last year, you for sure wouldn't have been complaining!
