PLEASE TELL ME YOU DID NOT SEE THE MEIOSIS SQUARE DANCE. Scarred me for life, but hey at least it helped me remember meiosis! (now coil up coil up coil up tight if we gonna do meiosis right... :? )

If you need any help you can message me. This is one of my favorite events. I would HIGHLY reccomend getting a highschool or collage textbook as it may be confusing after going through it and my teacher helping me its gotten so much easier. also if you have an Ipod touch or ipad there is a flashcards app to help expand your vocabulary (its called flashcards+) and its free. Like I said im willing to help :)

Same, we had that unit in 7th grade, but it was really basic, pretty much only teaching us about punnet squares

Yup. You need to do a lot of studying on your own.

Oookie.. Well, I took a practice test to study for Heredity.. but they're apparently they are Designer Genes tests. I'm going to ask questions about it just in case...

-Do I need to know about DNA fingerprints?
-"In a population that is in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, 1/1600 individuals has a rare genetic recessive disorder. What is the expected frequency of heterozygotes? (2)" How would I solve this?
-Do I need to know about blotting?
-"Consider the following cross: Aa Bb Cc Dd Ee X Aa Bb Cc Dd Ee. How many different kinds of gametes can each parent produce?" Okay, yes, I know how to solve this, BUT. Is there a shortcut to figuring this out?
-"How may different genotypes be produced among all the offspring from the above cross?" Again, is there a shortcut to this?
-"For the following cross – Aa bb Cc DD Ee X Aa Bb Cc dd ee, what is the chance of getting an individual who shows all dominant traits? Express answer as a fraction." Once more.. shortcut?
-A population of turtles has the following genotype frequencies.
Freq AA freq Aa freq aa | What is the frequency of the A allele?
0.81 0.02 0.17 | What is the frequency of the a allele?
For freq. of A, I got .83, but the answer key said .82. For the second, I was again .01 off. How come?
-"When true-breeding round eye female Drosophila are mated with true-breeding slit eyed males all the female F1s have kidney-shaped eyes, and all the male F1s have round eyes." (This is an x-linked trait.) "If the F1s are selfed, what fraction of the F2 males is expected to have kidney shaped eyes?" I got 1, but the answer is supposed to be 0.. why?
Edit: One more!
"In chickens C- ii is colored, C- I- is white, and cc ii and ccI- are white. If two individuals heterozygous for both genes are crossed, what fraction of the progeny is expected to be white?" Uh... how to solve?

And.. phew. That's it! thanks so much!

I watched it!!! It was actually kind of helpful...at least, to learn the basics :)

On another note, what does it mean when a question asks you to list the possible alleles? I know what alleles are and I know how to list genotype and phenotype, but I wasn't sure about alleles :?

I think it means all the possible allele combos, like aa/Aa/AA.

Yes, AA/Aa/aa is the genotype.. But if they are asking you for the phenotype as well, you probably need to write the trait (e.g.: Yellow, Yellow, Green).
