Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Do any of you know any good resources where we can find info on DNA sequencing, protein synthesis, and stuff like that? I'm guessing a lot of the stuff on the tests will include AP bio knowledge (which i haven't even taken yet... =.=)
What disease did cured ham actually have?
If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...Does that mean the fifth one enjoys it?
I used to be healthy, until I took an arrow to the knee and got gangrene.

Eh, you can always borrow - or "borrow" - an AP Bio textbook from one of the teachers at your school. They'll likely be more than happy to let you do so (well, maybe not if you "borrow" that textbook).deezee wrote:Do any of you know any good resources where we can find info on DNA sequencing, protein synthesis, and stuff like that? But from a couple quick google searches:

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
The last time they were in the two events were pretty much the same as far as Mendelian stuff goes, but Designer Genes had a lot more modern genetics. Heredity had some DNA structure, karyotyping etc., but not so much on genetic engineering or PCR or anything like that.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Division C will be allowed one double-sided note sheet.thehydrogenpoptart wrote:Are we allowed any reference materials for this event? Reference materials weren't allowed in the version of the rules of Designer Genes that I read, so I'm wondering if they're allowed for Heredity.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Can Division B participants bring a note sheet?
Speaking of notes, I heard that someone in Designer Genes wrote notes all over their arms, but I have no clue what happened to them.

Yep, one note sheet. Generally, if notes are allowed in C, they're also allowed in B. This doesn't apply to, like, the laptop in Astronomy, for example.sciencegeek999 wrote:Can Division B participants bring a note sheet?

You also get two cheapo calculators.

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
So this event is about genetics and molecular & cell biology?
I just borrowed Molecular Biology of the Cell!

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
The idea, this event is more specific than more broad events like cell biology or microbe mission. (Though I felt microbe mission was a really great event!) It is dealing with a lot of general heredity principles/concepts and then dives deeper into some details that could be learned from reading the genetics chapter of any IB or AP biology book. Obviously to cover yourself you'll want to do more research than just that but that's a good start.MicroLover wrote:So this event is about genetics and molecular & cell biology?
