Re: Awesome Aquifers B
Is ammonia allowed at competition, or is that up to the event supervisor? We use it for remediation, so I was wondering.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
In the event rules guide it says not to use any dangerous materials (I would not try eating ammonia...). Last year I used iodine and ascorbic acid, but that's prohibited now, so I would expect that ammonia would be too (although I doubt that some judges would notice).Mr Sarcastic wrote:Is ammonia allowed at competition, or is that up to the event supervisor? Road Scholar seems to depress everyone on my team who does it, but it's my favorite event...

Remediation doesn't require you to use ammonia and other types of chemicals, unless you want to be really fancy which doesn't really affect your score.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
Get some saltwater that has a specific food coloring different from the pollution. Talk about it and then dump it in an "ocean" and show how it moves through aquifer.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
just pour some salt into the body of water, and explain how it works by pulling water through a well.

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
At our state tournament, my partner and I lost points on porosity for not providing a demonstration relevant to the aquifer, because we measured porosity in two beakers separate from the aquifer. Does anyone know how we could get around doing so, while still demonstrating porosity?

Did you use the same rocks from the aquifer for the tube?TYG wrote:At our state tournament, my partner and I lost points on porosity for not providing a demonstration relevant to the aquifer, because we measured porosity in two beakers separate from the aquifer.
