Re: Meteorology B

To the team at Case Western Reserve (Ohio, NE): This will be my last year in Div B. Meteorology being my best/strongest event.
My frustration with regionals the past 2 years has been that the test there has been more off-topic that what the event standards outline. Secondly, the tests have been very short, non-descriminating. 2 yrs ago, there were only 20 questions. Northmont, Solon, Kenston Invite had 100-120 questions and were well waited across the topics. Just competed at Mentor and test there was pretty lame. 46 questions, 30 multiple choice, 16 true false. There were only 3 points separating 10th from 4th place! 2/3 of the participants scores needed the tie breaker!! So, if it is not too late, please make sure the test writers look at the scioly standards, and make it a harder, more comprehesive test, so as to truely separate the talent. Let the chips fall where they may.

Last note: why is it Case of the only event where you never get the tests back??

The number of people who read scioly is actually rather small compared to all the people involved in SO. You would be better off trying to contact the Tournament Director directly than putting a random post here.... You can find contact info on the Ohio State SO website: http://ced.osu.edu/scioly/index.html

Almost all Regional and State tournaments don't give tests back. That's just a practice you find at invitationals.

It is really annoying when tests have stuff that is not on the rules. It makes you study more. :?

It sounds like it's just referring to any change in the ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In what context did you hear the term used?
ornithology, forestry, entomology, triple E, green generation, water quality, dynamic planet (lakes & rivers), awesome aquifers, meteorology, robot arm, write it do it. :)

I think it's right off the rule sheet. My best is how varying levels of carbon in the atmosphere might be caused, and how that will affect other aspects of climate (e.g global warming, global cooling)

Going to Regionals this weekend, any tips? :D
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' but 'That's funny...'

Same 8-) I've been to Regionals once in my lifetime. If you're taking the Meteorology test with a partner, it will really help to know each others' strengths and weaknesses, and how the work is to be sorted out. My partner and I last year wasted too much time disputing over an easy, straighforward question (the direction of a hurricane's rotation). Just a heads up on how crucial cooperation is.

Can anyone give me tips on how to match cities with their graphs(temperature and precipitation)?
