Thank you! Did you have a calculator? That would've helped especially. And did you do the bonus part?tornado guy wrote:Ya good job! I have a feeling we might of messed up on the math. We split the test and I did the true/false (Which was so easy.), I think that the math put us out though

Rememember the Meterology test at the NY State competition ? True or False: "Can a tornado spawn a hurricane?" It'd be awesome if that could happen...starshine wrote:It was mostly simple Meteorology questions. There was a lot of graph interpreting and counting. There was some math, like finding the area of a tornado track. We had to label air masses, as well as do some true and false questions, like, "Can hurricanes form on the equator?"FueL wrote:What was the test like? And... CONGRATS ON 2ND ! I freaked out during the live feed yesterday, haha.starshine wrote:Anyone think that the Nationals Meteorology test this year was way too easy?
And thank you!
Goodbye Science Olympiad, until next year.

Re: Meteorology B
Starshine, would you say the test was easier or harder than the NY test? Or about the same?
ornithology, forestry, entomology, triple E, green generation, water quality, dynamic planet (lakes & rivers), awesome aquifers, meteorology, robot arm, write it do it. :)

If a tornado could spawn a hurricane? That'd be cool.Tramsarran wrote: Rememember the Meterology test at the NY State competition ? True or False: "Can a tornado spawn a hurricane?" It'd be awesome if that could happen...
But the NY State event was so much harder in my opinion.
And FueL, I like how we address each other by our usernames and not our real names XD

Re: Meteorology B
Ya we brought in a calculator, we knew how to find the area for some of the questions, but my mind went blank when we got to the "Finding the area of a perfect circular tornado using Pi formula."Thank you! Did you have a calculator? That would've helped especially. And did you do the bonus part?
Bonus Part??? I don't remember seeing that.. What type of questions were on it?
What would a tornado spawning a hurricane even look like

They gave you a formula. I believe all you had to do was plug the numbers in.tornado guy wrote:Ya we brought in a calculator, we knew how to find the area for some of the questions, but my mind went blank when we got to the "Finding the area of a perfect circular tornado using Pi formula."Thank you! The bonus part. With the air masses. It said for bonus credit, you have to write down the abbreviation for air masses. ie.- Continental Polar=cP
I dunno, but that'd be epic.

Re: Meteorology B
That does sound really easy. :\ I wonder if it was the same writer who did the 2005 nats test.

I'm not sure. He had two other people helping him write it. It looked so professional too, with binders and page protectors.FueL wrote:That does sound really easy. :\ I wonder if it was the same writer who did the 2005 nats test.

I also liked how they pre-spaced all the teams out!
BTW, Naming air masses in a national test is pretty easy for bonus points.

Definitely. But it was really quiet in the room, so when I talked, it got awkward. A 255-seater lecture hall with 20 people in it got awkward. And their lunch came in the middle of the event.tornado guy wrote:I also liked how they pre-spaced all the teams out!
The dryline went between the places of close dewpoints and far away dewpoints, right?
