That's completely correct. It takes time for the Earth to absorb incoming solar insolation and emit it as longwave radiation into the atmosphere.

Agreed, WAY too easy. I managed to win, however the one question that my partner and I got stuck on was the one about why maximum temperature doesn't occur when there is maximum solar radiation. Anyone know the answer to that one?

No official coach, but my dad is a meteorologist so I guess that could count.
